Fish and aquatic plants are an integral part of lakes and rivers. They are of utmost importance in keeping the natural ecosystems in balance. ITT Flygt makes every effort to develop and design solutions that both maintain the integrity of natural systems and satisfy our customers’ needs. On many occasions, the water of lakes, rivers, or oceans has to be pumped out to respond to an emergency or to complete a project.
Flygt has designed fish screens for use with its submersible Flygt pumps or with its self-priming engine pumps suction hoses, to prevent fish and aquatic plants from being sucked when they are installed in lakes, rivers, or other natural bodies of water.
These fish screens consist of a rigid structure of galvanized metal with fine removable stainless steel screens which substantially reduce the impact on the environment. Most aquatic organisms such as fish and plants cannot come into contact with the pump or the suction hose, because they are remote and protected by the new screen.
In addition, the screens were designed based on the guidelines issued by Fisheries and Oceans Canada to satisfy the requirements for screens for the protection of aquatic organisms set forth in Section 30 of the Fisheries Act.
Two models of the fish screen are available to accommodate flow rates ranging from 0 to 300 L/sec. Both models are manufactured in dimensions that make it impossible to exceed the maximum velocity authorized for the protection of subcarangiform fish.
